Riverbed provides its partners with tools to engage in real conversations with business decision-makers about the benefits it delivers to technology investments. Part of the value proposition Riverbed is trying to bring the table is that it adds value to other technologies, such as core networking gear and applications.

At the same time, the Riverbed has upgraded the RiOS operating system for its Steelhead WAN optimization appliances. RiOS 6.5 includes application-specific optimization for Microsoft Outlook Anywhere and SMB v2. The new version also includes optimization for SSL certificate traffic for client machines and for protocols used by satellites.

The third generation in the Blue Gene family of supercomputers, Blue Gene/Q operates at an order of magnitude faster than previous systems, deploying 16 multi-processing core technology and a scalable peak performance up to 100 petaflops—a massive leap forward in parallel computing power.

The report also outlines the growing importance of open source platforms such as Apache Hadoop and Linux for business analytics software developers. Applicable to a growing set of computationally intensive workloads within the scientific community, Blue Gene/Q is the ideal platform for highly complex projects in a broad range of areas from nuclear energy to climate modeling.

“The results are clear. Mobile computing, cloud computing, social business and business analytics have gone beyond niche status and are now part of any modern organization’s core IT focus,” said Jim Corgel, general manager ISV and Developer Relations, IBM. “IT professionals who can develop the skills needed to work across these technologies will be ready to meet growing business demand in the coming years.”
